Welcome to all new international and master’s students of the Guild of Surveying Engineers (Maanmittarikilta, MK)!

My name is Senja, and I’m your Master’s Captain. I’ll be your guide throughout your freshman year, or your fuksi year as we call it, as a new master’s or exchange student. Feel free to reach out to me anytime — no question is too small!

The Survival Guide 2025 for master’s students in the School of Engineering will be published on this page in late June. It will introduce you to student life in Otaniemi, the student guilds, teekkari culture (=engineering students’ culture), and many other useful things.

In Otaniemi, we mainly use the Telegram app for communication. Links to the most important Telegram channels for new master’s students will be added to this page early in the summer. In the meantime, you can already join the info channel of the Guild of Surveying Engineers, where you’ll find announcements about all upcoming guild events — and yes, you’re warmly welcome to join them starting this autumn!

In addition to the Master’s Captain, you’ll also be supported by our ISO people, meaning student tutors. We have dedicated international ISOs who will contact you at the end of the summer. Besides your own ISOs, you can ask for help from any other ISO or members of the guild board. You’ll also be supported by Emmi (Telegram: @emmivieira), our Master ISO coordinator, who is in charge of the international ISOs.

I warmly recommend taking an active part in the guild’s activities during your master’s fuksi year. Even if you’ve already experienced one freshman year before, nothing beats a teekkari fuksi year!
