For Masters Fuksi

Welcome to all new international and master’s students of the Guild of Surveying Engineers (in Finnish Maanmittarikilta or MK for short)!
If you’re starting or doing your exchange studies in one of the following master’s programmes you’ve come to the right place:

We are Elvi and Katja, and we are your Master’s Captains. We will be your guide throughout your freshman year, or your fuksi year as we call it, as a new master’s or exchange student. Feel free to reach out to us anytime. No question is too small!

The Survival Guide 2026 for master’s students in the Guild of Surveying Engineers will be published later in June on this page. The survival guide introduces you to student life in Otaniemi, the student guilds, teekkari culture (=engineering students’ culture), and many other useful things.

In Otaniemi, we mainly use the Telegram app for communication. Links to the most important Telegram channels for new master’s students will be added to this page later in the summer. Later you can also join the info channel of the Guild of Surveying Engineers, where you’ll find announcements about all upcoming guild events and yes, you’re warmly welcome to join them starting this autumn!

In addition to the Master’s Captains, you’ll also be supported by our tutors, also known as BIGs or ISOs in Finnish. We have dedicated international tutors who will contact you at the end of the summer. Besides your own tutors, you can ask for help from any other tutor or members of the guild board. You’ll also be supported by Ella (Telegram: @ellasod), our master’s tutor coordinator, who is in charge of the international tutors.

We warmly recommend taking an active part in the guild’s activities during your master’s fuksi year. Even if you’ve already experienced one freshman year before, nothing beats a teekkari fuksi year!
