What is The Guild of Surveying Engineers?
The Guild of Surveying Engineers (Maanmittarikilta, MK) is an association for people interested in built environment, as students or otherwise. The guild is especially for students in the degree programs of Built Environment, Sustainable Communities, Real Estate Economics, Geoinformatics, Spatial Planning and Transportation Engineering, and Urban Studies and Planning but everybody is welcome to join! You can join here.
Established in 1901, MK is the oldest student guild in Finland which still receives new students every year. The guild has ca. 400 members and even though the guild is old, it is very versatile and active. The most important tasks of the Guild are advocacy and supervision of our members’ rights, educating new students about university life beyond official studies, and arranging fun activities for the members. The guild room is located in building K1 (Otakaari 4). There you can drink some coffee and relax, or work on course assignments with your friends.
The biggest event of the Guild is the annual ball which is held every March. Smaller parties and other events are organized regularly throughout the year. We also arrange educational events and company visits where you can learn about potential employers and establish important connections for the future. There are also representatives of the Guild in the decision-making bodies of the Department of Built Environment and School of Engineering.
